First Tryouts for 2015 a Huge Success!

Prospective Lions Show Their Intensity at Feb 7th Combine!

On a beautiful “winter” Saturday, dozens of prospective southern Nevada football players, the majority of whom pre-registered, came out to show off their individual skills at the first 2015 Lion Football Combine. At the Lion’s Den, the Henderson International School, and with temperatures in the 70s each young man competed in NFL style drills to prove to the Lion coaching staff, they have what it takes just to be invited to camp.

Entering its third year, this combine produced more early on-line registrants than in previous years. Word is out, that the no non-sense mandate was in effect and that more than ever not only would player talent, but individual character would be a key part of the decision making process.

Head Coach Allen “Tommy” Kilen couldn’t help but allow himself to smile on a few occasions, remarking at the level of intensity, particularly coming from Lineman Coach Donny Bunac. It was Coach Bunac’s privilege to supervise the bench press drill (225 lbs) and to put the potential linemen through his own variation of drills.

After an intense three hour tryout, which included both 5-on-5 and 7-on-7 drills the coaching staff and ownership thanked this group of participants for making this one of the best combines too date!

Then reality set in: Co-owner Jeff Belknap laid out just what would be expected of players. Not only will it be a privilege to be a Vegas Lions, but that each player will be required to attend and complete the newly initiated R.O.A.R Leadership Program (Responsibility Opportunity Achievement and Respect).

Coach Tommy then informed the anxious group that those being invited to camp only, would be receiving a call from their position coach within 48 hours! From there, the closer and more intense scrutiny will begin, culminating with a conditioning test on Feb 28th. Pass…you make the roster. Coach Tommy didn’t need to go any further.
