Congratulations to the So Cal Coyotes! APFL 2015 Inaugural Spring Season Champions!
Saturday May 16th, Palm Springs, CA
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, it was fitting that after major rain during the week, the skies opened up for the last two standing in the inaugural APFL Spring Season Championship Game:
California Sharks Vs So Cal Coyotes
It would be Round three of this heavyweight bout, with the Coyotes claiming the first two wins by less than two touchdowns. And as it turned out, this one would be another dog-fight. Not being able to show each other anything new, meant whom ever could minimize the turnovers would win the inaugural championship trophy. And indeed that came to fruition.
After trailing 21-7 at the half, and with only 18 players, the Sharks kept thing at a stalemate for the third quarter, and after q quick 4th quarter TDS by the Coyotes and Sharks, making it 28-14, the Sharks scored off a Coyote turnover to make it 28-21, setting up another close finish. After a remarkable INT by the Sharks on their own 6 yard line, they drove the ball down to the Coyotes 13 yard line with less than two minutes. But it was not meant to be for the game Sharks. After a tipped past, it was another INT for the Coyotes and after a couple of hand-offs, it was time for the Coyotes to celebrate! Final 28-21 Coyotes.
The game itself was what championship games should be, literally down to the last play. But more importantly, it meant that the APFL 2015 Spring Season was a success! It meant that players at this level were not only compensated, they were insured. They competed in four different cities, on time and on schedule!
And now, as the APFL gears up for the 2015 Fall season and EXPANSION, hats off to Five-Star Sports and Entertainment, and its principals John B and his lovely wife Ida, Rick and Anna Holt (Anna is the APFL’s first League President) and the entire APFL staff for making this a memorable 2015.
For the Vegas Lions, having had the privilege of being one of the inaugural four teams (along with the Arizona Scorpions), we can assure you…The Best is Yet to Come!
